An Fhoireann Haca 2010 / Hockey Team 2010
2009.2010 was a year full of excitement and changes for
the hockey players of Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh We welcomed
huge interest this year from our new first years in September.
They brought new energy to the team, and with many talented
players such as Sarah Claffey, Sarah Murray and Marie-Louise O
Callaghan joining our ranks, the team showed huge improvement
from very early on.
Our first match was in mid October against the Crescent
Comprehensive in Dooradoyle. This was the first time our players
had played together and while all were nervous on the day they
had an impressive 7-0 victory over the Crescent Comp! Marie-
Louise proved her skill by scoring an outstanding 6 out of the
7 goals!! We played many more matches throughout the year.
We met very tough opponents in U.C.T., Loreto Clonmel and the
Presentation Thurles, but as the year wore on our skills were
constantly improving.
We had a nail-biting win over Laurel Hill Coláiste in early March.
We pulled into an early 1-0 lead but Laurel Hill responded with
an early second half goal. We took a huge blow when we lost
our captain Sarah Claffey to injury, but still we clung in there and
secured a second goal to win 2-1!
We had a successful, fun and exciting year this year, and much
of this was down to the introduction of our new coach Niall
Tuohy. Niall is a former player with the Irish international team
and he has various coaching qualifications. Having trained at the
very highest level himself, his obvious skill and great coaching
technique has had a very positive effect on the players. His
dedication and interest in the teams has brought things on in
leaps and bounds and we are very grateful to him! |
U16 Tag Rugby
The U16 Girls Team 1 were crowned Champions of the Munster
Competition held in Mallow in Mid April. We commenced
the day playing Mallow, defeating them 9-3.The team were
outstanding and continued to win all their games by a significant
margin, defeating Laurel Hill, 9-3, Ardscoil Chorcaigh 9-4 and
Presentation Thurles 8-5. The girls were excellent in defense
and maintained composure while gaining several fast breaks
from players such as captain Mary Ní Shé, Laura O’Mahony and
Michelle Powell. We thank the IRFU for the great day and are very
grateful for the €250 voucher we look forward to spending in
The Munster Rugby Store.
